Where can I obtain my ohio vehicle
title?

In a Chapter 7 bankruptcy case, if you own a vehicle, you will be required to show proof of ownership by presenting a copy of the vehicle title to the Chapter 7 case trustee. Your vehicle registration, insurance card, or lien release letter from a bank will not suffice for this proof of ownership. In order to show proof of ownership, you must present one of the following

  • In cases where you own a vehicle free and clear of liens, a copy of the free and clear vehicle title is required
  • In cases where you still owe payments on a vehicle, a copy of the memorandum of title is required.

Each of the above titles can be obtained from a Bureau of Motor Vehicles (BMV) title agency. In Central Ohio, title agency locations are as follows:

Main Branch:

Great Southern Shopping Center 45 Great Southern Boulevard Columbus, Ohio 43207 (614) 525-3090 8:00-5:00 M-F

North Branch:

The Patio Shops 1484 Morse Road Columbus, Ohio 43229 (614) 781-0060 8:00-5:30 Monday 8:00-5:00 T-W-Th-F 8:00-Noon Saturday

West Branch:

Charles D. Shipley Building 1970 West Broad St Columbus, OH 43223 (614) 525-3090 8:00-5:30 M-F

East Branch:

I recommend you take cash in order to obtain your title, as there are fees associated with a request for your vehicle title. Click here for a fee schedule.
